Fort Johnson Middle School Director of Bands:    Kevin C. Lakin

Mr. Kevin C. Lakin is a native of Charleston, SC and attended Goose
Creek High School. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Music
Education from Charleston Southern University in 2004 where he studied
tuba with Mr. Craig Sutherland of the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra.
While at Charleston Southern University Mr. Lakin served as the
principle tuba player in many ensembles including Chamber Winds, Concert
band, and Marching Band. Mr. Lakin was also involved with the
University Jazz Band, Basketball Band, and Brass Quintet. Mr. Lakin is
an alumni of the Phantom Regiment Drum & Bugle Corps, 2001 - 2003, where
he studied with J.D. Shaw (Boston Brass), Sam Pilafian (Arizona State
University & Co-Author of The Breathing Gym), Pat Sheridan (Soloist and
Entertainer & Co-Author of The Breathing Gym), and Peter Bond
(Metropolitan Opera). Mr. Lakin is finishing his third year as Director
of Bands at Palmetto High School.

Mr. Lakin is an alumni and past president of the Lambda Beta
Chapter of Kappa Kappa Psi. Mr. Lakin is also a member of the South
Carolina Band Director's Association and the Music Educators National
Conference.
